The Corona Tapes

August 2020 was a time that many musicians would prefer to forget. Above all free-lance musicians were effected. Working opportunities dried out almost completely, the future seemed completely uncertain, and even when playing was possible, it was connected to conditions like minimum distance between players, masks, etc. Despite these challenges with a group of expert musicians from the Berlin early music scene and I recorded works by Corelli, Telemann, Molter and Leopold Mozart. Even if the resulting recordings aren’t perfect they reflect my love of the natural trumpet and historical performance practice. My heartfelt thanks to the wonderful musicians who supported and played with me in this endeavor.

Archangelo Corelli (1653-1713): Sonata a quattro for trumpet, two violins and basso continuo

Georg Philipp Telemann (1682-1767): from Musique de Table, 2. Production, Ouverture (Suite) in D major TWV 55:D1, Ouverture and Conclusion TWV 50:9

Johann Melchior Molter (1696-1765): Sinfonia Concertante Nr. 2, MWV VIII 2 for trumpet, two oboes, two horns and bassoon

Leopold Mozart (1719-1787): Trumpet Concerto in D major

Rehearsals and recordings took place in the Christuskirche in Berlin-Oberschöneweide from the 24th through the 27th of August .
